cold turkey

the mabster still uses her binkie at night to help her fall asleep. well for the past 2 nights, she has thrown her loveies (blankie, woof-woof, cookie monster, and binkie) out of her bed because she was mad about having to go to sleep when we laid her down. well, she cried for a bit and then fell asleep and slept through the night. then i realized, this is the perfect time to get rid of that damn binkie. might as well since she is the one throwing it out. it's now or never.

so when the mabster woke up this morning, i seized the day. i told her that she's a big girl and that binkies are for babies. then we searched the house for all of them, and i told her to throw them in the trash. i acted like it was a fun "big girl" thing to do. she was excited, and threw them away herself one by one. still acting quite excited, i called daddy and had her tell him what she did. she said, "i put binkie in trash. i'm big girl. i did it!!" she was still excited too. then daddy got excited and told her how proud he was of his big girl.

so far she has gone all day without one and even took her nap without it. granted, she cried for it for about 10 minutes. i could hear her screaming "binkie!" over the monitor, but i stood my ground. soon she was fast asleep, and i felt great. all the binkies in this house are gone so there's no caving in or turning back. we're about to lay her down for bedtime, and i'm sure she will be screaming for it again. that's okay though because i will just turn the volume off on the monitor and take a bubble bath while listening to my ipod. maybe even crack open a bottle of my riesling. my nerves are shot, but it feels damn good to finally do it. for the longest time i didn't think i had it in me. i kept putting it off. not today. today is a day of new beginnings. wish us luck!

Good for Mabster! She IS a big girl!!

I don't think we're going to have it as easy around here because Miss P is a thumb sucker and we can't throw her thumb away! LOL!

You will make it! I think it's spot-on that you will turn the monitor down, have some wine and take a bath. sounds like a recipe for the soul.

No worries, she will be fine!

Way to go Mabster.
