GOOO BLAZERS!!

tonight we headed down to bartow arena to watch the UAB blazer's first home basketball game for the 2008-2009 season. we played USF (university of south florida), and it was an awesome game!! seriously...just awesome! jay and i love watching blazer basketball. ever since our freshmen year at UAB, we have hardly ever missed a home game and have traveled more than a dozen times to watch some away games as well. basketball was always my favorite sport. both watching and playing. there's a lot of running in it, but i loved it. guess that explains why i ate cheese fries in high school and was still skinny. also, i like to claim that a have ADHD so the fast pace action of basketball always kept me interested and focused.well for the past five years, we have been members of the blazer club. the blazer club rocks! dinner is provided for us in the green and gold room before the game starts, we have a nearby guaranteed parking spot (a super perk because parking downtown sucks big donkey balls), and awesome seats. we took the mabster to her first game when she was the same age as the grunt is now. she has always loved it. so this year was our first year to bring both girls. it was a man-to-man defense the whole night. jay had the mabster and i had the grunt. they were both perfect as perfect can be which was a bit surprising. i carried the grunt around in my baby bjorn, and she just sat in it for the whole first half. again, i was shocked because she usually decides that she doesn't like it after 10 minutes or so. the mabster (being the biggest daddy's girl out there) sat on jay the whole time. she enjoyed watching the game, but loved when the cheerleaders and golden girls would come out and dance. next thing i know, the mabster is dancing and attempting to do flips on the floor in front of us. too funny.

tip off began, and the game got started. it was a slow first half and at one time, UFC was beating us by 13 points. not good. i thought for sure that we wouldn't lose our very first home game considering how great we've been playing on the road, but i must admit the thought crept into my mind. during halftime, we went to go sit with my side of the family. they are die-hard blazer basketball fans as well and really enjoy the games. it's feels good seeing them all there and plus, it's always fun handing off a kid to them for the remaining of the second half. hehe.once the halftime show was over with, we headed back to our seats. thank god that the blazers came back out ready to play. we were on fire, and soon the score was neck and neck. the game ended in a tie which then lead into overtime. we were on the edge of our seats the whole time. it was freaking awesome. every now and then, we'd all high-five each other with whatever free hand we had available. then within the last seconds of the game, we took the lead. the clock counted down, and we ended up winning by ONE POINT! score 78-77. awesome, awesome, awesome!! we jumped up and down, and for a moment, i wanted to run on the court and do a victory dance with the team, but then i realized i had a baby in my arms and i was no longer that painted-up freshman. oh well, i can dream.

(on a side note: brady quinn (former football QB for notre dame and now QB for the cleveland browns) was at the game as well. we bumped into him while headed to the restroom. i wanted a picture with my boyfriend, but my husband wouldn't let me. HA! instead, he slipped me this pic of him to hang on my bedroom ceiling so that i can stare at it as i fall asleep. isn't he just lovely? oh but yes, yes...he's definitely NO jason douglas!! =P)
