the polar express

sunday, we ate an early dinner at o'charley's around 4:00pm and then headed down to calera at the heart of dixie railroad museum where the magical polar express train ride began. we boarded the "Long Island" railroad train at 6:30pm and claimed our seats in the back (which by the way, were the BEST seats since the kids had much more room to move around in, and we were the first to greet the elves and santa). score. here are some pictures of us before we all boarded our for those of you that don't know, the evening outing is based on the christmas book by chris van allsburg's The Polar Express. these excursions bring the classic children's story to life with a real train ride and a visit with santa and mrs. claus. amid shouts of "all aboard" and a jolly "ho-ho-ho" were being shouted as true believers set off on a magical christmas train ride to the north pole.

during our ride, a story time of the famous book was read out loud. the girls enjoyed looking out their window at the outdoor holiday light displays while singing christmas carols. the elves were even added to the festivities as they came out before santa did. here are some pictures of the sisters in their matching christmas pajammies. also, how sweet are the mabster and lil B as their eyes filled with wonder while looking out their window and anxiously awaiting to arrive at the north pole to meet santa.once the train drew near and we all saw the sign that read "the north pole," we could see santa and mrs. claus standing outside in the spotlight and waving at us. it was simply precious when the girls got extremely giddy and started waving back. we were the first to be greeted by santa and were bursting to talk with him. the mabster told him that she's been a good girl this year and what she wanted for christmas. soon after, yummy cookies and chocolate milk were being passed out along with the gift of a bell from santa's sleigh just like in the book. also, they were given their very own polar express christmas ornament to hang on the tree. super cute.lastly, everyone enjoyed their snacks while on the train ride back to the station. we were all very impressed and thankful at how much fun the whole outing went. this will definitely have to be a christmas tradition with my tri-winkies and family. i believe my t-shirt sums it up nicely when i say....HAPPY HOLIDAYS, EVERYONE!! XOXO
