b'day, & comedy club, & hypnotist, oh my!!

tuesday night, we enjoyed a moms night out in honor of heather's birthday. she received free tickets to the gary conrad show where he hypnotized people from the audience. the show started at 7:30pm, but we all met around 6:30pm to partake in dinner and drinks beforehand. lynda brought some cupcakes for everyone from gigi's in hoover. they were delicious. we had awesome seats on the floor which in all honesty made me a bit nervous because i was sitting front and center and was so worried that the hypnotist would call me out or pick on me. don't lie, i'm sure we all share that same fear.

so the show gets started and gary asks for volunteers from the crowd to fill up a whole row of chairs that were on the stage. once all the chairs were filled, he then proceeded to tell everyone to take off any earrings, necklaces, glasses, hats, etc that could potentially be a danger to anyone. then he announced, "if anyone has a heart condition, asthma, jealousy issues, rarely exercises, epilepsy, etc...please disqualify yourself from the stage now." we were all thinking, "what in the world is this man going to do to these people!?" rewind: did i mention that this was the first time ever for me to witness anything like this? like ever. true story.

some people were weeded out, some remained. the hypnotist got started with some breathing patterns, fast-talking, and a whollatta clicking noises into his microphone. next thing we know, he lays a hand on each person's head and they automatically fall on the person to the the right of them. he then tells them that when he counts down, they will grab the person beside them and believe that they are their pillow. then told them to shake their pillow and everything in between. it was bizarre. it was hysterical. it was baffling. and it was awesome.

rewind again: did i mention that the birthday girl was one of the volunteers up on stage? yeah, again it was hilariously awesome. here are some pics...see the guys with their shirts off? yeah, they were told that they were chippendale dancers. i think every mouth in the audience dropped. also, during one stint where they were told that bugs were all over them, a big girl got so freaked out that she pulled up her dress and showed her spanx and panties to the whole comedy club. needless to say, soon after her husband walked up there and took her off the stage only after gary conrad had to "unhypnotize" her.

okay. so my thoughts on this whole thing (considering i've never witnessed anything like this before) is i feel that obviously some of the characters were set up, maybe even paid, to put on a laughable show. that said, i do believe that some of the audience members were truly hypnotized. for example, the big girl was completely out of it. also, our friend the birthday girl (heather) was dazed out too and told us that she barely remembers anything. i know she wouldn't lie to us.

now that's some crazy shat if you ask me. but it definitely provided more laughs that i have ever laughed within the past couple of years. honestly. my cheeks hurt so bad and my head was about to blow. overall, i'm so glad heather got free tickets for this and shared it with all of us. it was a blast!!! happy birthday, heather! xoxo

lyla's first day of 3K

today, lyla started her first day of preschool in mrs. west's class. she was so excited to be going to big girl school in what she called "abby's old class" (this is the exact same classroom that abby was in last year just with a different teacher). lyla woke up easily, got ready, grabbed her blue tote bag with the number 3 and her name on it along with her folder inside, and headed up the stairs to school. i have to admit, we are so proud with how well lyla has and is adjusting to the transition of two different schools being split up within the same week. she just jumps right in and loves both. i am absolutely relieved in knowing that. you make us so proud, lyla. here are some pics...after picking her up from early dismissal that day, i peeked my head in the side of the door and watched her quietly sitting there before whispering her name at her. once she saw me, she immediately jumped up and screamed, "momma!!!" and gave me the biggest best hug ever. ((SIGH)) this is why i have the best job in the world. motherhood is beyond awesome when little things like that make your heart melt instantly. on the car ride home, i asked her what she did that day. she replied back with, "drove a car on the playground, colored, and listened to my teacher." we're so happy you had a wonderful first day in 3K, lyla bug! xoxo

the nan has been knitting up a storm of beautiful little headbands and hats for sweet baby jem-jem to decorate her lovely little lady lump (pocket of fluid from her temporary shunt). she looks so ridiculously sweet in them that i couldn't help but take some pictures of her wearing them. these are just an example of a few even though nan made nearly 15-20 of them with many different colors with flowers, buttons, bows, etc. thank you, nan...sweet baby jem-jem is so happy to be sporting the adorable head gear! xoxo

lyla's day with tita karmie

as tradition stands, tita karmie has always taken each one of our girls for a day to do whatever they want in honor of their birthday as a treat from her. this time it was lyla's turn and when asked where and what she wanted to do, the first words out of her mouth were "birthday cake" as she started singing and acting as if she was blowing out an imaginary candle. easy to please and the cutest thing ever.

so tita karmie comes over to pick her up on sunday morning. we get her ready and out the door they go. first, they ventured off to chuck-e-cheese where they played with the games, ate at the salad bar, and gave the overgrown rat a big ole hug from the birthday girl. from there, they headed over to the galleria for some shopping and a fun ride on the carousel. tita karmie said that lyla went nuts when she saw it. admittedly, we haven't been to that place in several months so hearing that didn't surprise me. after the galleria, they stopped at the store in which lyla finally got to pick out her very own "birthday cake" which was the one thing she truly wanted. when they arrived home, it was the first thing she did...sit at the kitchen table and told us to "open it." of course we sang...and she blew out her imaginary candle. here are some pics...once tita karmie and lyla shared birthday cake with everyone, it was time for us to start getting ready for another birthday party. both tita karmie and lyla were tired from an earlier fun filled day that they decided to take a nap together in lyla's bed as they watched a movie together. unfortunately, lyla enjoyed talking and rubbing tita karmie's face the whole time so no one really got a nap in. an hour or so passes, and tita karmie decides to take the birthday girl out for dinner. location: mexican. one place where it's a guarantee that our picky eaters will enjoy some rice and beans. after dinner, they headed over to the dollar tree where tita karmie let her pick out whatever her wee little heart desired. she said it was hilarious at first because lyla would pick out the strangest things like hand sanitizer and throw it in their basket. all in all, the birthday girl picked out some awesome new stuff and even shared with big sister once they came home. needless to say, lyla slept wonderfully that night and felt special all weekend. thank you, tita karmie. we know she had a blast with you. love you, the way, that last picture was staged for all of them to smile "the lyla smile" which consists of squinting her eyes and showing nothing but teeth. surprisingly, they all performed it perfectly except the rare occasion that lyla didn't. love it.

happy 6th birthday, anna!!

OLS family fun day

saturday, we decided to partake in school activities with our girls at OLS's annual family fun day. this was our first year to attend and we had so much fun. there were a lot of different games and activities for the kids to enjoy, and it was nice being able to chat with some of the teachers, as well as some of the parents of abby's classmates. i thought i would nearly die as i stood there talking with her principal and the PE coach as abby came running up and announced that she had a feather in her hair. ack!! to the principal. luckily, they both laughed and said "how pretty"...but i'm fairly certain if there's a reminder in the newsletter this week, it's my fault. i digress. here are some pics...

apparently the current trend for girls are feathers. as jewelry, in your hair, designs in clothing, etc.

that said, being the coolest tita ever, karmie decided to take the girls out to our local hair salon (all american curls) and let them pick out their own feather for their hair in honor of lyla's birthday. at first i was a wee bit apprehensive considering they both attend catholic school and having attended one for 13 years of my life, i know how strict the uniform code tends to be. then i saw them at the salon. they had a variety, one of which were super skinny, long, and subtle. i thought if i found the perfect placement within their little heads of hair, it'd hardly be noticeable. so that's exactly what we did. here are some pics...supposedly, these things last about 3 months and were about $17 each. the birthday girl picked out a very soft, skinny, light lavender feather. abby picked out a long, skinny, black and blue one that matches her uniform. tita karmie picked out two different kinds: a solid green one and a yellow and black one. both for UAB. go blazers! in all honesty, it's hard to hunt these accessories down as i sorted through their hair. i find that very reassuring considering it's nice enough for the girls to show to their friends, but yet hide from their authorities. oh lord. guess i should start praying for my sins.

lastly, it's all the girls talk about. they are so excited to have them. thank you, tita karmie! xoxo. here are some pics...

swimming playdate

thursday, mandy invited us over for a swimming playdate in her newly renovated oasis of a backyard. we were all super excited as i packed up both lyla and baby jem-jem as we headed out the door donning our bathing suits. stacy and karla maria along with their kidlets met us there as well while we swam for a couple of hours and then later had a picnic on the patio. all in all, the beautiful warm day was perfect for a refreshing dip. thank you for having us, mandy. we love you guys. here are some pics...
