3.) Confession: I had to give fair warning to my fellow room moms that if they were going to be my friend, they need not be shy about my camera. They gladly accepted my picture-taking addiction and posed often. #IThinkImInLove

4.) Being with just the baby all weekend while Lola & PawPaw took big sisters to AU game was definitely a reminder how easy just one is. #ButYetNotComplete

17.) Baby Jem-Jem had her 6 month follow-up appointment where she received 5 shots and the flu vaccine. She's 18 lbs and 2 oz of perfection and 26 inches tall which puts her in the 75th percentile for both and doesn't go back until she's 9 months old. #ThankfulThatDrVisitsAreSlowingDown

18.) Not sure I can wait till November for Daylights Saving Time to end. This getting up & out the door before the sun does is for the birds. Where's my rise & shine!?

19.) Last night, Abby laid it on thick & told me that "she loves me more than the caboose of all numbers." I think she wants something...

20.) Nothing like that moment when you're feeding the baby squash & she gets overly excited, sticks out her tongue, & splatters it all over you. It's a good thing she's cute.

room moms night out

wednesday night after lyla's soccer practice, i drove across the street and met up with a few of my favorite OLS moms (kathryn, dawn, stacy, and shannon) for a lovely dinner date at pinches tacos in homewood. upon arrival we ordered chips and salsa along with their blood orange margarita (which was absolutely delicious, btw) and claimed our high top round table that was located in the middle of the restaurant. we were all so excited to see each and laughed and talked all night long.these are the same moms in which we were all room mothers together last year as well as all of our girls were in the same dance class. this year, we've volunteered to be the kindergarten room moms yet again considering how great we all get along. seriously. these women are awesome. we joked about giving each other nicknames, talked about first loves, skeletons in our closet, what our kids say about school, and everything in between. it was a fantastic time and we all can't wait to do it again. this upcoming school year is going to rock and it's because i've met these fellow moms who help keep me clued in since i am a mere rookie. lol. again, love these ladies. until next time...

lyla's 1st soccer practice

so we signed up lyla for 3-4 year old soccer with the YMCA league. her and cousin carson are on the same team and they enjoyed their very first practice on wednesday night. watching them run around and chase the ball was the cutest, funniest thing ever. we prepped lyla beforehand and told her that she could only use her feet to kick the ball and to not use her hands. well when given the first opportunity to kick the ball into the goal, she ran up to it, fixed the ball's placement with her hands, and then proceeded to kick it straight into the net. score!! again, it was so ridiculously funny and cute. supposedly their first game is this saturday and jay was asked to coach since their original one might not be able to make. this should be interesting to say the least. hehe. look at my sweet beckham in pink...

le sigh

the weekend was absolutely beautiful so jay and i couldn't resist making our way to the lakehouse for a quick little quiet getaway. mamaw came over to watch baby jemjem for us while we spent hours cruising along on the boat, soaking up the sun with the wind in our hair and music on the radio. we hardly knew what to do with ourselves considering it was the first time in years for it to be "just us." the water was so calm it looked like we were gliding on glass and watching the sunset was breath-taking. i absolutely love being and seeing the simplicity and wonder in nature. it's definitely good for the soul. i lake it, i love it, i want some more of it...

JDRF Walk 2011

saturday morning while abby and lyla were in auburn with the grandparents, jay and i loaded up baby jemjem and made our way to veteran's park in hoover for the juvenile diabetes research foundation walk in honor of my BFF's little boy "team sugar free CJ." registration and activities started at 8:00am and the 5K walk began at 9:00am. we were happy to support and represent CJ considering we know what a whirlwind it has been for his whole family ever since his diagnosis of type 1 diabetes shortly after his 2nd birthday. here are some pics...stacy used the caption, "Light & a cure at the end of the tunnel" for the last picture. i found it to be very fitting. next year we're all dressing up with a theme...i say richard simmons' style: "sweatin to the oldies" equipped with headbands, wrist bands, and old school basketball shorts. hehe. go, team sugar free CJ!!

auburn football

friday afternoon, lola and pawpaw came over to our house to pick up lyla and take her to her first auburn game of the 2011 season. this year they decided to take the girls individually to a game since abby requested that she go to one "all by herself." well when lola and pawpaw walked through our back door to take lyla, of course abby turned on the water works and cried that she wanted to go too. being the super sweet and laid back grandparents that my mom and dad are, of course they told her that she could come as well. both girls were sooo excited and i'm not gonna lie, so were jay and i...this meant that it would just be us and baby jem-jem (who is the easy one at the moment because she doesn't talk back or run away from us, lol) for the whole weekend, yippee!!

so both abby and lyla spent the night at lola and pawpaw's house on friday night and then they drove to the plains that saturday morning. auburn played florida atlantic and kickoff was at 6:00pm. here are some pictures of their pre-game festivities...they walked around at the tailgate, got their faces painted, ate chick-fil-a for lunch, rode on top of pawpaw's shoulders during the tiger walk, and enjoyed their own snow cones outside on the stairs with lola. they were having an absolute blast throughout the entire day. here are some pics...later in the day, it was finally time to enter the stadium for the football game to start. i gotta admit, i was a bit worried about lyla considering it was a night game and i know how that sweet munchkin gets when she has missed a nap and it's been a long day. she's usually a hot whiney mess or highly cuddly and affectionate...or perhaps a combination of both. judging by the pictures that lola took, i can tell she got a little affectionate with her pawpaw as she nearly fell asleep in his lap, danced around, and then attempted to put him in a (what jay and i call it) "choke hug" (it's her sincerest form of love. it hurts, but it's actually really sweet. hehe).overall, lola and pawpaw reported that they were "wonderful." the thing i love about my parents is that even if our kids "had their moments," they still tell us that they were "just fine." i guess i'll take a "wonderful" with a smile and a deep appreciation for lola and pawpaw for taking our two big kids out for great memories over the weekend. oh, and did i mention the tigers came out with a win with the score of 30-14. war eagle and thank you, mom and dad. we love you guys sooo much. our girls had the time of their lives and these last pictures are proof...

praying in pj's

abby's kindergarten class took part in a day of "praying in pj's." each classmate wore his/her pajamas to school as he/she began a fun-filled religious day. the day began with father jaya blessing them and their rosary beads. then they all partook in a religious craft and visited the adoration chapel. they ate cross-shaped cookies, and father adams surprised them by being the mystery reader and read them a story about prayer. later, they had rosary in the prayer garden, silent meditation at rest time, and a prayer service with their parents as mrs. larussa talked to all of us and read a bedtime story as abby sat in our laps. we were so glad to be able to end her fun-filled day together. she was so excited to see us and was acting a silly foo'...not sure if you can obviously tell by the pics, but here they are...the above two pictures are of abby with her two "very best friends" right now (brooke and isabelle). they all share the same table and i can only imagine how much they love talking and being silly with each other. below are pictures of abby with her teachers, mrs. philbin and mrs. lawrence. she absolutely loves them as well...mommy too. and lastly, abby proudly displayed her holy water container that she made that day at school. it is now located in a special place within our home where abby likes to "bless" us and nearly every stuffed animal she can find. she says she is pretending she is in atrium class and says her own little prayer. have i mentioned how much i love her school? even mrs. larussa said, "they are all good and holy now...for a long time." love it. LOVE.

thursday's thoughts

1.) Thankful that I can finally keep my blinds open throughout the day without worrying of overheating our house. #HelloFall

2.) Love the feeling of walking into a nice windy crisp Fall night after laying 20 minutes in a hot tanning bed. #MommysWayOfRelaxing

3.) Hubs and more than a handful of his fraternity brothers have all decided to sign up for their first "tough mudder" event in february. if you've never heard of this, google it now. YES. they are insane.

4.) My nearly 35 year old sister just called me from Legoland in California. The excitement in her voice was palpable. #NeverTooOldForLegos

5.) Proud vs. Embarrassed: Meanwhile at our local grocery store, Abby points to an older gentleman wearing a bammer t-shirt & says "Boo Roll Tide." Thankfully, he didn't hear her. #SECFootball

6.) The person who says it cannot be done should not interrupt the person doing it. -Chinese Proverb

7.) Went house looking today & found my dream one in Vestavia. Now if only I could pick it up & place on 2 lots in Homewood. #AGirlCanDream

8.) Left my cell phone at said dream home's driveway. Neighbor found it & quickly called us to retrieve it. Perhaps a sign? Ha! #AGirlCanDream

9.) Absolutely fantastic weekend. Monday will undoubtedly suck. #TheWayTheCookieCrumbles

10.) Finds it ridiculously cute when Lyla wants to sound out all of her words before she says them. #SchoolIsCool

11.) Started cleaning garage out today. Found a plastic bag containing Hub's old sweaty workout clothes & then decided to quit. After I threw up. #Ewwww

12.) Homework in Kindergarten, artwork in preschool, dance class, cheerleading and soccer practices. #ThisIsMyLife #LovingEveryMinute

13.) Ate lunch with Hubs, received a tour of new office, and watched as his coworkers made sweet baby jem-jem smile and smile. She even blessed Mrs. Cathy with spit-up. Oops. #OverallGoodTime

14.) Signed my three year old up for soccer today. I foresee many faceplants in her future. However, she may surprise us. #BeckhamInPink

15.) Watching baby Jem-Jem take her binkie (pacifier) in and out of her mouth repeatedly is one of my most favoritest things to do. Like ever. #LittleBabyHobbies

16.) Abby loves making up her own prayers. Half of the time, they start out as a normal one and then she takes a turn where she makes up the rest. For example: "Now I lay me down to sleep. I pray the Lord my soul to keep. If I hurt my finger, I hope I can find a bandaid. Amen." #FunnyFiveYearOld

UAB's 1st home game

saturday after the earlier football game that morning, we went home and changed the girls' cheerleading outfits into UAB ones in preparation of their first home game versus tulane. kickoff started at 3:00pm, however we all got there around noon for some awesome tailgate festivities. oh, how we love to tailgate! our bestest of best friends were there and everyone brought their munchkins along for some fun too. check out the kids' pen that the haswells put together...absolutely brilliant and they loved it. here are some pics...shortly after arriving, saying hello to friends, and grabbing our favorite tailgate beverage, we decided to appease our children's pleas to go have fun at blazer village. we all walked over and discovered that this year they have a choo-choo train that drives you around outside the stadium. it was awesome and definitely a great addition. then the kids wanted to climb up and slide down the huge inflatables and jump around in the bounce houses. here are some pics...meanwhile back at the tailgate, we munched on a variety of different food. while the kids were playing on the corn hole sets, abby and brooke spotted the UAB blazerettes. without hesitation, they ran up to them, introduced themselves and asked for a picture...of course, jay was the first person on the scene with his phone out, ready to take said pic. i don't know who was more or my kids. i knew how happy "the big girls" were making them feel. then each one of the blazerettes grabbed abby, lyla, and brooke's hand as they led them towards the pep rally where they all danced, cheered, listened to the band play music, and took another picture with blaze. our kids were in heaven. the most heavenly of all we didn't have actual plans to enter the game. we love our blazers dearly, but watching them play football is just painfully heartbreaking...we hardly ever come out with a "W." tailgating is what we do best, people!! that said, our offspring had different wishes. they cried, and begged, and pleaded...they wanted to go inside since the cheerleaders told them, "we'll see you inside and maybe you can come down and cheer with us." abby was so determined to see them inside. so of course...we went inside. our blazers played horribly, but we didn't care. watching our kids share a bag of cotton candy while screaming their new found cheers was worth witnessing every bad play. and to top it off, as we were walking out, the blazerettes gave our kids each a poster of them to take home. here are some pics...overall, it was an awesome exhausting day. definitely one for the books. because hearing my five year old say, "today was the very best day ever," followed by her BFF saying, "yeah, like it was our birthday" sends my heart into a flutter. that's what game day is all about, people. gooo blazers!!
