happy 4th birthday, owen!!

friday after picking up abby and lyla from school, we made our way down 280 to i-jump for owen's 4th birthday party at 4:00pm. the girls were so excited to play and celebrate, but due to the horrendous monsoon-like weather that lead to even more horrendous traffic...well, we were tardy for the par-tay. jay left straight from work and met us there and actually arrived before we did. so as soon as we pulled into the parking lot, the girls were jumping out of the car and into their daddy's arms, ready to play with owen and friends. they got their wristbands and ran around like monkeys. mandy made them a plate of pizza and cake after they finished playing and all in all, they had a blast. sorry we were late, but thanks for having us. happy happy birthday, owen!!

jemma's first birthday party!

we decided to host baby jemma's first birthday party at our house on saturday at noon. family and close friends with sweet babies around her age were there to honor her in celebration. it was so nice to see a few of our college friends with their newest little ones since apparently the baby boom within that circle has begun. it makes me happy to know that jem-jem will have the same opportunity for playdates and fun just like her big sisters experienced, but within the moms group. here are some the theme for her party was, "look whoo's turning one" with owls galore. everything turned out ridiculously cute, especially the birthday girl herself wearing a matching tutu and party hat. did i mention that both big sisters even wore matching owl shirts too? yup. many thanks to etsy, stickyfingerz boutique, and hope's sweet cakes for helping me create a fun coordinating theme. since this is definitely our last "first" birthday that our douglas clan will be celebrating, i wanted it to be special. here are some pics...later in the day, we sang happy birthday to our special girl while big sisters and friends helped her blow out the candle on her adorable cake. sweet baby jem-jem had so much fun tearing into her chocolate cake. later, she had a blast playing with cousins and friends while the older siblings jumped around in the bounce house outside. it ended up being a beautiful sunny day after a string of rainy bad weather so we felt very lucky. all in all, it was a great birthday celebration for our sweet little girl. thank you for all that came and made it a wonderful time.happy happy 1st birthday, sweet jemma! we love you oh so very much and thank god for how blessed we have been for such a healthy progression throughout your first year. you are definitely our miracle baby and we will never forget how much you taught us during the first few months you were born. you have not only completed our family, but made us grow stronger together during the most difficult time of our lives. thinking about it now makes me teary-eyed. you are simply amazing. xoxo

spring break 2012

during the week of spring break, the girls and i enjoyed a "staycation" since the hubs is fine tuning new projects at work. gotta admit, the copious amounts of beach pictures that were plastered all over facebook had me green with envy. but that said, there is nothing that makes me greener and happier knowing he is busting his hiney so that i can have the option of doing what i love which is staying home and spending quality time with my girls. beach schmeach, we have fun no matter what! here are just a few pictures of the good times we had during spring break 2012...

the atl: day 3

sunday we woke up and made our way to the coca-cola museum while the others went to the aquarium. reason being is because we've taken the girls to the aquarium before, but not to the coke museum and everyone has told us that we'd enjoy it. once we were inside, we watched a quick little introductory video inside a small auditorium area. after the video, the curtains opened and we were given the chance for a cheesy photo op with coke's polar bear and a character that is shaped like a bottle that was in the video. of course, we were all over it. i was in the professional group picture, but i really didn't feel like busting out 20 bucks for the thing. i like pictures, but i'm not stupid. plus, it wasn't a very flattering one of me. ha. and now the truth comes out. here are some we walked around a bit and went from room to room, reading the history behind coke, playing with a few interactive spots, and watching how the syrupy goodness is made in the huge machines until we finally entered the tasting area. we walked in and i seriously had no idea where to start...we had heard that africa had the best flavors and whattayaknow, it was right in front of us so we grabbed a cup and filled'er up! yup. it was magnificent. one tasted like a pina colada and it was ice cold. i may or may not have camped out at that one for a wee bit. the girls picked out a strawberry one and loved it as well. by the time we left, lyla was sporting a red coke mustache. and before we're judged, they honestly didn't drink copious amounts...maybe 3 half cups of different flavors and some were immediately poured out because they didn't like it. anywho, we walked around and tasted more. there were over 65 flavors and jay's favorite one was called "ice" from asia. he likes the asian flavor. yeah, he does. i digress. here are some pics...that last picture cracks me up. because if you didn't just sample enough coke, they gave you a bottle as a souvenir for the road. abby excitement over it was hysterical.

after tasting all of the different flavors of coca-cola from all over the world, we made our way to the 4-D theater were we watched a 15-20 minute movie that shook us all around, sprayed us with water, and blew cold air on us. needless to say, both girls ended up on top of me and in my lap because it ever so slightly freaked them out. ahhh, it was like disney all over again. all in all, we really enjoyed the coke museum and are happy to mark it off our list of places to visit.

after enjoying all things coke, we met up with our cousins at the centennial park that is across the street from both the museum and the aquarium. our mutual planning really seemed to work out and in good timing. my kids got to run around and burn off some sugar with hannah, elise, brooke, and brandon before we loaded up our car and headed back home. overall, it was a great weekend in the atl with family. i really love this kind of stuff and i know my kids do too. thank you for coordinating all of this, maress...until next time! xoxo

the atl: day 2

saturday morning, we all met at the interactive children's museum to let the kids play. this day was also st. patty's day in case all of the green we were wearing didn't give it away. it was so ridiculously sweet watching the girls playing with their cousins as they ran to each exhibit together. they spotted the big red dog clifford for a quick picture then made their way to trains, garden, on the farm, to the grocery store, fishing, the clubhouse, and many other spots. abby and lyla even stopped and sat down with maress, hannah, and elise as they listened to a play/storytime that was going on. abby said she really enjoyed it because by the end of the skit, the grumpy man had grown a big heart after learning to be nice to others. here are some pics...
after the children's museum, we all walked over a few short blocks to where the atlanta st. patrick's day parade was about to begin. the kids sat along the sidewalk as we stood there and watched. the different floats and inflatables were quite impressive as the kids waved once they passed by. gotta admit, the irish men in kilts playing their bag pipes are always my favorite. here are some pics...after the parade, we all ate lunch at the nearby bakery and it was delicious. by that time, i headed back to our hotel to let baby jemma take her much needed nap while jay took abby and lyla back over to matt and maress' house so that they could continue to play with cousins hannah, elise, brooke, and brandon.

lastly, we ate a low key family dinner at maggiano's and it was the perfect ending to a wonderful day. spring break was already to a great start as evidence by the smiles on our munchkins faces. oh, how i love wee little mini-vacations and catching up with relatives that we haven't seen in awhile.
